The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) is the national nonprofit organization representing the state and territorial public health agencies of the United States, the U.S. Territories, and the District of Columbia. ASTHO's members, the chief health officials of these jurisdictions, are dedicated to formulating and influencing sound public health policy, and to assuring excellence in state-based public health practice.
ASTHO is organized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit association. Its mission is to formulate and influence sound national public health policy and to assist state health departments in the development and implementation of programs and policies to promote health and prevent disease.
ASTHO maintains its headquarters in Washington, DC, just ten minutes away from Capitol Hill. Staff members serve as an information resource to state health agencies and ASTHO members and alumni on public policy. Guided by ASTHO's policy committees, the organization addresses a variety of key public health issues and publishes newsletters, survey results, resource lists, and policy papers that assist states in the development of public policy and in the promotion of public health programs at the state level. |
